Dom Hubert van Zeller on Loneliness

It has been said above that loneliness is one of the most clinging qualities. It is, but this is largely because we are ourselves to blame. This is not to belittle the intense suffering it can cause, it is simply to say that its effects, as well as the long time it can last, are often our fault. It clings, certainly, but, for one reason or another, we let it cling. Loneliness, unlike fear, can be not only spasmodic but can be prevented from becoming a lifetime's misery.
